Our Approach

Here at Five9 Network Systems, we offer much more than a hardware platform. We offer a range of product services throughout the product lifecycle that provides an end-to-end approach to each of our customer’s specific needs. Our best practices can help you reduce cost, accelerate time-to-market, and minimize risk. We will work with you to develop the best solution for your specific computing needs.

Customer Engagement Process

Our clients share one commonality: they need a specialized system or appliance, but their specific needs are widely varied. We need to understand exactly what you want out of your ideal system.

Initial Meeting - At our first meeting, you’ll sit down with our system design engineers to discuss the project you have in mind. We’ll work together to start outlining your initial product requirements.

Define Product Requirements - To make sure you get exactly what you need, we will work interactively with you throughout the engineering and prototyping process until you are confident that the product requirements we establish will produce the system you want.

Present Project Proposal - Once we come to an agreement about your product requirements, our engineering team will put together a complete project proposal with a list of system specifications and components for your approval.

Build and Evaluate Prototype - Upon your acceptance of the project proposal, we build a prototype system for your evaluation and testing. If you’re happy with the proof of concept solution, we will continue with production and prepare to commercialize the product. If not, we will continue refining the system until it meets your needs.

Commercialize Product - Once the prototype meets your approval, we put the entire system together. This includes finalizing the product bill of materials (BOM) and putting the system through any necessary regulatory testing.

Production - Once the BOM is finalized, we go to production. Remember, we have no minimum volume requirements!

High-level expertise is required to develop, build, and support custom engineered servers. Since every system is different, it is important to optimize the functionality and configurations of each server built.

Applications often have specific requirements for which it makes it may make sense to design custom-made components if that’s what the system requires. Design flexibility is paramount during this stage so that any number of specifications can be accommodated. This helps ensure that the design and quality of each component is optimal and the overall system meets the requirements of the application.

Our expertise and flexibility accommodate any number of specifications you may have. We have worked closely with customers on a number of customizations, including:

  • Memory, processor, and board configurations.
  • Minimizing noise output.
  • Specialized systems for high temperature environments.
  • Private labeling.
  • Custom chassis design.

The goal is to always design a specific solution to meet the customer’s unique needs, using  knowledge and experience to create the most efficient and cost-effective product available.

It takes more than just a good hardware platform for a system to operate at its full potential. Being able to optimize the firmware for your environment is a critical competitive advantage.

BIOS Design

Analysis, design and customization of the system-level BIOS is one way to improve your system which allows low-level performance optimization and differentiation. Full source code of leading BIOS implementations is available (where needed) along with full sustaining and support services.

Remote Systems Management

Development of custom firmware and device drivers may be required to accommodate custom hardware components and configurations, and is readily available if needed. Development of remote management interfaces for custom and standard hardware including “lights-out management” and remote diagnoses are also available options to keep in mind during the development process.

In addition to engineering systems and appliances, several services are available to make the transition to your new system as seamless as possible.

Regulatory Compliance and Certification

Integration Services

The ability to integrate systems with third-party hardware and software can be a valuable asset to OEM and ISV customers who typically need to create an integrated solution. Available integration services include a wide range of reliability, compatibility, and environmental qualification testing which can streamline the transition from development to production without adding to the obligations of the customer. The model of designing systems that are fully integrated, tested, and certified to meet all of the customer’s needs makes it that much easier for them to focus solely on their application.

Compliance Services

Designing systems upfront to meet the most stringent compliance and regulatory standards is a process that significantly lightens the burden on the customer. Managing the entire certification process from documentation creation to tests results submissions and issue resolution means that the customer doesn’t have to worry about the pains and troubles that can be encountered while going through the regulatory approval process. The design expertise in NEBS, UL, FCC, CE, VCCI and CB required to pass test and qualification requirements is of the utmost value when preparing to move to production.

System Integration

Extended Life-Cycle Servers

At Five9 Network Systems, life-cycle management begins prior to engineering specific systems. Technology changes quickly, and it is very difficult to build an entire server using components that will stay in production for the next three to five years. This makes keeping every server in a network running for more than just a few years challenging. One option that we can provide customers with is an extended life-cycle on our servers. We will support systems built for up to five years, if planned in advance. Our partnerships with companies such as Intel allow us to go directly to the manufacturer and collaborate to ensure that key components used in our servers will stay in production for an extended period of time.

End of Life Management

Regardless of whether you decide to build a server with a standard or longer life-cycle, the components used will eventually reach end of life. Advanced notification and help with EOL preparations allows customers to stay ahead of the curve. There are three options to extend the life of your current server:

Extended availability – manufacturers can occasionally be convinced to wait an extra year before discontinuing the needed part, extending the product life by a little bit.

Five9NS’s Extended Availability Program (EAP) offers the opportunity to extend product lifecycles up to 24 months after the last ship date of a specific product. EAP Highlights include:

  • End-of-Life planning with Five9NS and OEM Partner.
  • Lengthen the product lifecycle by receiving Five9NS products after the last ship date.
  • Lock-in delivery of Five9NS products for up to 2 years.

Inventory stocking management – failure rate analysis can be used to determine an estimate of how many parts will be necessary to keep in inventory.

Component transition - some parts, like memory, can be changed from the older model to a newer one still being produced.

Transitioning to the Next Generation System

Often times customers elect to transition to a next generation system, instead of extending the life-time of servers that are no longer in production. We will contact customers before their current system is unavailable. We will then discuss how to move on to the next generation of servers, revisiting needs. We may have access to new technology that makes your systems more effective. We can build and ship new systems as the life-cycle of the last generation is coming to an end, ensuring a seamless and easy transition for our customers.
